Maine US Route 201 marker. Up for sale today is this Maine US Route 201 sign. Made to the exact 1926 federal standard, as used between then and 1948 along this famous highway. US 201, a 157-mile (253-km) spur of US 1, passes through the entirety of Maine, from the coast to the Canadian border, where it connects with Quebec Route 173. North of Solon, US 201 is also known as the Old Canada Road National Scenic Byway. An original of these is very hard to come by. They were retired from the roads of Maine long ago, with most of them being destroyed and only a few examples circulating on the collector’s market. An original would easily run many hundreds or even thousands of dollars on the collector’s market. So here’s your chance to get your hands on a fantastic display piece… Without breaking the bank. The sign is 12 by 12 inches, and weighs 2 lb. This is a high quality, heavy steel replica sign. Accept no imitations that may be one-third this price, but are one-tenth the quality. This variant of the route shield uses the LeHay font that’s associated with vintage Maine signage. Route 1 is the eastern seaboard’s longest highway, totaling over 1700 miles between Fort Kent, Maine and Key West, Florida. The Maine segment starts almost at the top of the world at Fort Kent and continues to the Canadian border crossing points of Houlton and Calais before following the Atlantic Ocean coastline through Portland to Kittery and then into New Hampshire at Portsmouth.
