Ontario King’s Highway 18 route marker. Up for sale today is this Ontario King’s Highway 18 highway sign. Made to the exact 1933 provincial specification that was in use until the mid-1950s. An original of these is very rare to find scrapped. Most of them have vanished from the back roads of Ontario many years ago, replaced with the modern issue. Additionally, Highway 18 has not been a part of the Ontario route system since 1998. So here is your chance to own an excellent display piece, without paying an arm and a leg on the collector’s market. The sign is 12 by 19 inches, and weighs 3 lb. This is a high quality, heavy steel sign. Accept no imitations that may be one-third this price, but are one-tenth the quality. No cheap tin to be found here, with the wrong fonts, layouts, size, shape, or any other manner of embarrassing imperfection. More specifically, the 139.1 kilometres (86.4 mi) road connects Toronto to the Niagara Peninsula and Buffalo, New York. It has no posted route number, but is considered a 400-series highway, and is referred to as Highway 451 for Ministry of Transportation administrative purposes. This sign is made to the exact 1955 provincial standard that is still in use to the present day. An original of these is most likely to be found in active service along Queen Elizabeth Way. This particular route runs for 221 km. (137 mi) from its junction with Highway 17 (The Trans-Canada Highway in Ontario) in Thessalon in the Algoma District to Chapleau in the Sudbury District, just north of Highway 101 in the southeastern part of the province.
