While a student at UNC’s Law School, Dan Murphy created his first sculpture. He took his work to NY, received a positive response and never looked back! Since 1976 Dan Murphy has been creating his metal sculptures using aluminum, stainless steel and. By bending, shaping and manipulating metal he creates highly desirable free form art sculptures. He uses metal forming equipment he made himself in order to create his brilliant sculptures. Dan Murphy has developed & defined his own recognizable style. His work has won multiple national awards. Check out some of his items (and their prices) on 1st dibs! Here’s your opportunity to own one of his fine creations for a fraction of the cost being charged on other marketplaces. This sculptures features aluminum ribbon spirals, twists and turns measuring approx. 22 3/4 inches tall. X 10 inches wide on a clear lucite base that is 6 1/2 inches sq. This beauty is signed Dan Murphy and dated 1982. Even though this sculpture was created 35+ years ago, it has withstood the test of time. It is in great pre-owned, pre-loved vintage condition. There are a few very tiny surface scratches, each approx. The width of a strand of hair. (example shown in extreme close up- picture 7). These are apparent upon close inspection when seeking them out. We noticed a few areas that seem to have some sort of oxidation/tarnish/patina? To the metal &/or finish. We aren’t exactly sure what this is, hence using the words above to describe it. These areas look like they have hard water stains. We attempted to photograph these areas, but our camera wouldn’t focus on them. We did not attempt to clean these areas as we weren’t certain as to. What the appropriate product to use would be. Again, these are only noticeable when seeking them out / upon. As the pictures indicate, this sculpture displays beautifully & these minor “issues” shouldn’t be. This piece is versatile in that it fits the bill for many different design decors. Mid Century Modern, Brutalist, Minimalist etc… PLEASE NOTE: The black piece under the clear lucite base in some of the photographs. Is not part of the sculpture, we had placed it there. This fun 1990’s sculpture with sanded steel surfaces and raw spot welded joints scratched/painted removable/posable central element measures18″ tall on a 12 1/2″ x 4 3/4″ x 5/8″ thick steel base. It has pleasing unfinished surfaces contrasting with painted accents and light rust.
