Help Prevent Fires sign. Up for sale today is this Help Prevent Fires sign from the California Board of Forestry. The Board of Forestry in California was formed in 1905. The sign is made to the approximately 1913 specification of the California State Auto Association, with the logo at the bottom (as well as the association name at the sides) and with sharp corners. Later generations changed to rounded corners for safety, in case an unexpected kinetic event caused the darn thing to come flying through the windshield. The sign is 18 1/2 inches on a side (approximately 29 inches across the long axis, and 23 up and down the short axis), and weighs 8 pounds, 12 ounces. The original of these signs exists in a private collection and is not going anywhere. This is a high quality, heavy steel remake that has the same high gloss and is indistinguishable from the original early 1910s porcelain sign. Accept no imitations that may be one-third this price, but are one-tenth the quality. As you can see they are both in excellent condition. I think one of them is older than the other by comparing the backs. The one that says PRACTICE GOOD HOUSEKEEPING has a flat paint back. That one is soooo nice with barely a mark on it and i mean barely. The other one that says PREVENTS FIRES has the glossy red back. That one is also in excellent condition but has a small scratch on one of the letters as seen in a picture. I also tried to catch in a picture a factory blurb in the white letters.
