Mexico ALTO stop sign. Up for sale today is this ALTO (stop) sign. Made to the exact 1930 standards used by Mexico (and a few other Spanish-speaking countries) on its highways. Stop signs in this era were yellow and black, beginning with the first U. National highway sign standards in 1927. The US changed to the familiar modern red-and-white sign in 1954, with many other countries following suit. An original of these is very hard to come by. They were retired from the roads of Mexico long ago, with most of them being destroyed and only a few examples circulating on the collector’s market. An original would easily run many hundreds or even thousands of dollars on the collector’s market. So here’s your chance to get your hands on a fantastic display piece… Without breaking the bank. The sign is 16 by 16 inches, and weighs 5 lb. This is a high quality, non-reflective replica sign printed on heavy steel. Accept no imitations that may be one-third this price, but are one-tenth the quality. No cheap tin to be found here, with the wrong fonts, layouts, size, shape, or any other manner of embarrassing imperfection. This handheld traffic sign has seen some things. It is double sided. One side says stop on a red background and the other says slow on an orange background. It is probably from the 1960’s or 70’s based on the font and the vintage plastic grip on the handle and because it looks like it has been banging around a construction site for about 60 years. This is an awesome piece of wall decor and there are so many fun possibilities to decorate inside or outside with this! The sign part measures 15 inches in diameter and 22 inches to the end of the handle. It is in good condition in that it is still sturdy and could be used to direct traffic today if need be but with some wear and tear as can be seen in the photos. 24 by 24 inch yellow diamond SCHOOL BUS STOP AHEAD caution sign. The sign is from the 1940s or 1950s or so, and features a non-standard font set. The sign is claimed to be from New Jersey, but alas nothing is present to substantiate that. Carpooling sticker, with a graphic of a tiger, is present. Condition is as shown in the photos. Sign is black on yellow paint, with an embossed border and printed legend. It lies completely straight and flat with original paint as seen in the photos. Patina is commensurate with its service.
