K-4 Highway is the longest state route in Kansas, connecting Nortonville to Scott City, crossing through the capital of Topeka along the way. It is among the first highways to have been designated in 1927, when the state route system was numbered with the familiar sunflower signs that are still used to the present day. An original of these is very rare to find scrapped. Most of them have vanished from the back roads of Kansas many years ago, replaced with the modern issue.
