This one-off found object sculpture and painting compines the charm of early Klee primitivism with bold cubist abstraction and the charm of a distressed wood gym floor to creat a painting sculpture of brutalist modern fetish. Measuring 12 1/4″ x 8″ x 1 1/2 thick the face of the naturally distressed board is painted and varnished to reflect the head and neck/shoulders (in negative) of the standing figure painted (also in negative) on the back. The artist has accented the border with old-fashioned, square-headed cobbler’s tacks that cause arbitrary splitting of the wood at the edges and lend the feel of an African fetish. It is at once simple and powerful and is marked with the artist’s d! Cipher on the back.
