Antique Iron Cemetery Sign Haven of Rest Haunted Hotel Ashland Alabama Rare
Up for sale: This is a unique 19th Century sign I received from a friend. He had it in his house for over 40 years. It came out of the Clairmont Springs Resort(see last picture) in Ashland Alabama. I’m not sure what cemetery it came out of or how long this was hanging in the resort as the resort was built in 1909. The hotel burned down in the 70’s and was known as one of the most haunted places in the south. Around the resort were several springs that were said to have healing elements. There was a train stop there and politicians and actors would stop in and stay the night. It’s also believed that Al Capone stayed there as well as he wrote about staying at a rural East Central Alabama hotel in his letters. The sign is made of iron. With raised letters and measures 4.5′ long and 19 wide. The iron is half an inch in thickness. Heavy and weighs close to 50 lbs. A really rare piece for a collector. Rare 1920 Vintage Old Metal Sign 5′ HOTEL PADRE Cahuenga HOLLYWOOD Advertisement
I CANT PACK IT BUT YOU CAN PAY SOMEONE TO DO IT. Rare, Vintage metal sign, almost 5′ for the HOTEL PADRE. The hotel was located at 1963 Cahuenga in HOLLYWOOD, CA. The building no longer a hotel. This building is on the registry for historical landmarks in California. Please review all 12 scans. Exact size is 56 or 4.67 ft It is not a thick sign but is very heavy. I would estimate 60-70lbs. How this sign survived the trash heap must be a story in itself! Because of the low price for rooms, it was not on the hotel for long which probably explains the good condition of the paint. I used to live very close to this hotel which is now beautifully remodeled. The condition of the paint is remarkable except for the rust spots around the holes. There are 8 approx 1 holes where the original nails were. The hotels motto (albiet for a short time) was “A room and a bath for a dollar and a half” during the American Depression era.
