Illinois US route 45 highway road sign shield diecut 16×16 1950s 1960s 2974
16 1/2 by 16 inch Illinois US route 45 highway marker. Made to the 1957 specification that Illinois had for a few years with the absence of the letters US to accommodate larger numerals. The spec was overruled by the feds in 1961 and US was put back. Condition is as shown in the photos. Sign is black screen print on smooth yellow Engineer Grade Scotchlite reflective sheeting on steel. It lies completely straight and flat and has patina commensurate with its service. Signs guaranteed old original authentic.
