Up for sale today is this Rampart Boulevard, 500 S. The sign is made to the 1946 specification used by the city of Los Angeles to designate this famous street. This is the last style of porcelain sign before retroreflective signage, unfortunately not in the distinct shape any longer, were introduced in 1969. I can of course make any street, any block number, found anywhere in the City of Angels, and everywhere else too! I can make street signs for any city and street; inquire about your home town! The sign is flat printed on steel, with completely accurate layout and fonts. It weighs about 3 lb. And is 21 by 7 inches. This sign style was invented by the state of California in 1957, and adopted by the American Association of State Highway Officials for installation in conjunction with the brand new red, white and blue Interstate route markers until the federal standards of 1961 were ready. Though the style was supplanted by the 1961 Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, several states used this sign style for many years, and California continues to do so to this very day. An original of these is very hard to come by. In most parts of the country, they were retired from the roads long ago, with most of them being destroyed and only a few examples circulating on the collector’s market. An original would easily run many hundreds or even thousands of dollars on the collector’s market. So here’s your chance to get your hands on a fantastic display piece… Without breaking the bank.
