The wider shields came with the revision of 1961 – previously, three-digit route markers were the same size as two-digit, but with narrower numerals. This design was supplanted by the modern shield style – often with the state name omitted! – in 1971, and it gets harder and harder to find the original-style interstate route markers in many states. This particular route runs for 84.427 mi. (135.872 km), and is a major auxiliary route in the Allegheny Plateau of Pennsylvania, specifically in the Pittsburgh area. The road also serves the communities of Monroeville and Wilkinsburg along the way. I can, of course, make this sign with any route or destination of your choice.
