Nevada Interstate 515 route marker. Up for sale today is this Nevada Interstate 515 route sign. Made to the exact 1961 standard from the origins of the Eisenhower interstate highway system. The wider shields came with the revision of 1961-previously, three-digit route markers were the same size as two-digit, but with narrower numerals. This design was supplanted by the modern shield style-often with the state name omitted! In 1971, and it gets harder and harder to find the original-style interstate route markers in many states. At time of writing in early 2023, Interstate 515 is one of the busiest highways in the state of Nevada, linking I-15 in downtown Las Vegas with Henderson, one of its largest suburbs. The freeway continues on past Henderson to the Hoover Dam as Interstate 11, which will eventually go all the way to Phoenix. As a result, the Interstate numbering authorities approved Nevada’s request to change all of I-515 to I-11 in October 2022. Any day now, every I-515 shield in Nevada will disappear, replaced by shiny new I-11 shields. This sign is flat printed on heavy gauge steel, with completely accurate layout and fonts. It weighs about 7 lb. And is 21 by 18 inches. It is a non-reflective sign-perfect for ordinary display, indoors or outdoors. Nevada US Route 666 route marker. Up for sale today is this Nevada US Route 666 sign. Made to the exact standards as used between 1928 and 1939 along the highways of Nevada. US Route 666 never entered Nevada; when it existed, it passed through the Four Corners region much further east. Southern Nevada was served by US 466 instead. However, Las Vegas’s reputation as “Sin City” makes it tempting to tweak the number to something a bit more apropos. So here’s your chance to get your hands on a fantastic display piece… Without tampering with the national highway numbering system. The sign is 16 by 15 inches, and weighs 4 lb. This sign style was the among first ever US route markers ever posted in Nevada, as the highway department alternated between the porcelain and the embossed styles up to about 1939 or so. Only the porcelain signs got the distinct state-outline logo. In keeping with the theme of the sign, the logo on this one instead reads “Sin City, Las Vegas, Nevada”. The lettering is that used on the famous Welcome to Las Vegas sign, which you can find in my other listings. I also have a red-on-black version available for an even more devilish appearance, which can be seen in the design preview images. Please specify in your order notes if you would prefer this version!
