Of west central Montana, and is managed as two separate zones, the Jefferson Division and the Rocky Mountain Division. The Jefferson Division is mostly grass and shrublands. In this section, the landscape is dotted with fewer forested areas, which mostly occur in “island” pockets throughout that portion of the division. The Rocky Mountain Division, which straddles the Continental divide, has been designated a wilderness for much of the land area. Therefore, much of the management of this Division involves implementing and maintaining environmental preservation practices.
