Made to the exact 1945 state specification that was in use until the early 1950s along this famous road. Florida introduced the sign design with the state outline in 1945, and used the small size with the exact design seen here until 1956. Route A1A-officially Atlantic 1 Alternate, because it is an alternate to US Highway 1-exists in several segments connecting beach communities along the Atlantic Coast of Florida, including St. Augustine, Daytona Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Palm Beach, Miami Beach, and Key West. An original of these is very rare to find scrapped. Most of them have vanished from the back roads of Florida many years ago, replaced with the modern issue. So here is your chance to own an excellent display piece, without paying an arm and a leg on the collector’s market. The sign is 16 by 16 inches, and weighs 6 lb. This is a high quality, heavy steel sign. Accept no imitations that may be one-third this price, but are one-tenth the quality. No cheap tin to be found here, with the wrong fonts, layouts, size, shape, or any other manner of embarrassing imperfection. This one will make even the most discerning collector stick their nose into the sign, as it looks that good from that close!
