Made to the exact 1954 state specification that was in use from the highway’s opening until 1975. The Kentucky Turnpike, first opened in 1954, was built across north-central Kentucky as a connector between Louisville and the Western Kentucky Parkway in Elizabethtown. This unique sign features the state bird of Kentucky, a cardinal, and is very rare to find scrapped; the signs were all removed when the tolls paid off the original construction costs and the turnpike became a free highway. So here is your chance to own an excellent display piece, without paying an arm and a leg on the collector’s market. The sign is 12 by 12 inches, and weighs 3 lb. This is a high quality, heavy steel replica sign. Accept no imitations that may be one-third this price, but are one-tenth the quality.
