California poppy Scenic Route marker. Up for sale today is this California Scenic Route sign. Made to the exact state standard, as used from the sign’s introduction in 1971 to the present day, complete with the dark blue background found on newly-issued signs (which often fades to a much lighter blue after years in the sun). These signs with the “scenic route” text are typically posted at each end of the scenic route in question, while the signs with just the poppy and mountain (without the text) were posted at frequent intervals along the route itself, to reassure drivers that they were, in fact, still on the scenic route. An original of these is most likely to be found in active service along California’s scenic highways. The authorities know where they are supposed to be-on their posts, not in the trunk of your car. So here’s your chance to get your hands on a fantastic display piece… Without chancing legal trouble. The sign is 16 by 8 inches, and weighs 3 lb. This is a high quality, non-reflective replica sign printed on heavy steel. Accept no imitations that may be one-third this price, but are one-tenth the quality. No cheap tin to be found here, with the wrong fonts, layouts, size, shape, or any other manner of embarrassing imperfection.
