California Grand Army of the Republic Highway road sign 1956 US route 6 18x12
California Grand Army of the Republic Highway route marker. Up for sale today is this Grand Army of the Republic Sign sign. Made to the exact state standards as used in the late 1950s by the California Department of Public Works, Division of Highways. The Grand Army of the Republic Highway was first designated as the name for US highway 6 in 1934, when the road was first extended westward to Denver. In 1938 the highway was extended to its historical endpoint in Long Beach, California and in 1943 the state of California recognized the name, which honors the Union soldiers of the Civil War. An original of these, complete with the logo of the Division of Highways, would cost many thousands of dollars if one even survives at all. So here’s your chance to get your hands on a fantastic display piece… Without the hassle and expense of tracking one down on the collector’s market. The sign is 18 by 12 9/16 inches, and weighs 5 lb. This is a high quality, non-reflective replica sign printed on heavy steel. Accept no imitations that may be one-third this price, but are one-tenth the quality. No cheap tin to be found here, with the wrong fonts, layouts, size, shape, or any other manner of embarrassing imperfection. This one will make even the most discerning collector stick their nose into the sign, as it looks that good from that close! Please do see my other auctions for quality California US and state route markers! Would you like a number not seen here? Or perhaps a different style? I can of course make these signs with any route number of your choice, and not just this style, but older and newer ones, and even the classic mileage, direction, and city limit guide signs from the era. Anything you would like, made with unsurpassed quality right here in the good old US of A. Life doesn’t happen along the interstates. It’s against the law. Figure about 7 lb. The watermark and bear logo in the design preview will not appear on the actual sign. We have begun adding a watermark because we have had problems with other companies copying our artwork to make lesser-quality imitations. You will only get this high level of quality in design and materials from Signs by Jake.
