Up for sale today is this Baltimore-Washington Parkway sign. Made to the exact standards as used at the highway’s opening in 1950. The Baltimore-Washington Parkway was one of the first freeways in Maryland, built to relieve traffic on the parallel US-1. A portion of it is maintained by the National Park Service, with the balance maintained by the state of Maryland. The portion maintained by Maryland has since received the number 295, which necessitated the replacement of this marker with one of the more usual Maryland style. An original of these is very rare to find scrapped; they have been long since retired from the roads of Maryland. When they turn up on the collector’s market, you can expect to pay hundreds or even thousands of dollars. So here’s your chance to get your hands on a fantastic display piece… Without breaking the bank. The sign is 24 inches across, and weighs 11 lb. This is a high quality, heavy steel sign. Accept no imitations that may be one-third this price, but are one-tenth the quality. No cheap tin to be found here, with the wrong fonts, layouts, size, shape, or any other manner of embarrassing imperfection. This one will make even the most discerning collector stick their nose into the sign, as it looks that good from that close!
