US route 50 highway marker sign Sacramento California diecut shield 16x16 1957
US Route 50 route marker. Up for sale today is this US 50 route sign. Made to the exact 1957 standard as used in various states along this famous road. This sign style was invented by the state of California in 1957, and adopted by the American Association of State Highway Officials for installation in conjunction with the brand new red, white and blue Interstate route markers until the federal standards of 1961 were ready. Though the style was supplanted by the 1961 Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, several states used this sign style for many years, and California continues to do so to this very day. An original of these is very hard to come by. In most parts of the country, they were retired from the roads long ago, with most of them being destroyed and only a few examples circulating on the collector’s market. An original would easily run many hundreds or even thousands of dollars on the collector’s market. So here’s your chance to get your hands on a fantastic display piece… Without breaking the bank. The sign is 16 by 16 inches, and weighs 5 lb. This is a high quality, heavy steel sign. Accept no imitations that may be one-third this price, but are one-tenth the quality. No cheap tin to be found here, with the wrong fonts, layouts, size, shape, or any other manner of embarrassing imperfection. This one will make even the most discerning collector stick their nose into the sign, as it looks that good from that close! Please do see my other auctions for quality state and Interstate route markers! Would you like a number not seen here? Or perhaps a different style? I can of course make these signs with any route number of your choice, and not just this style, but older and newer ones, and even the classic mileage, direction, and city limit guide signs from the era. Anything you would like, made with unsurpassed quality right here in the good old US of A. Life doesn’t happen along the interstates. It’s against the law. Figure about 5 lb. The watermark and bear logo in the design preview will not appear on the actual sign. We have begun adding a watermark because we have had problems with other companies copying our artwork to make lesser-quality imitations. You will only get this high level of quality in design and materials from Signs by Jake.

San Francisco California 400 6th Avenue street blade road sign 1946 20x7
San Francisco 6th Avenue 400 block street sign (1946). Up for sale today is this 6th Avenue, 400 block sign. Signs in this style were still being posted until 1965, and remained in service for several years thereafter. The sign is made to the 1946 specification used by the city of San Francisco to designate this famous street. This is the style of sign seen at the intersection with 6th Avenue in all the historic photos. The signs were replaced by 1965-specification signs only in 1970, so the last of the 60s features this earlier format instead. An original of these is very rare to find scrapped. Most of them vanished long ago, when they were replaced with the more modern issues. So here is your chance to own an excellent display piece, without paying a small fortune on the collector’s market. I can make any street name sign, from San Francisco or any other city! Ask about your favorite street! The sign is flat printed on steel, with completely accurate layout and fonts. It weighs about 3 lb. And is 20 by 7 inches. If you would like a different size or route number, please do not hesitate to inquire. This is a high quality, heavy steel, non-reflective sign – perfect for indoor or outdoor display, with great gloss to replicate the old-school porcelain look. I can of course make these signs with any route number of your choice, and not just this style, but older and newer ones, and even the classic mileage, direction, and city limit guide signs from bygone eras.
