Vintage Metal Sign

California US Route 101 marker. Up for sale today is this California US 101 route sign. Made to the exact standards as used between 1928 and 1934 along this historic highway. This sign style was the first-ever US route marker posted in California. Only the first six years of production got the distinct blue logo; later issues changed this to black. US Route 101 is the last surviving highway from the US system of 1926 that still retains much of its mileage in California, though it has been truncated between San Diego and Los Angeles, being wholly replaced by Interstate 5. However, the historical old signs are quickly disappearing, both from sight and from memory. From Los Angeles, the road heads up the coast to San Francisco, and then even further north through Eureka and into Oregon, before entering Washington and curling around the Olympic Peninsula. An original of these, complete with the blue logo of the Automobile Club of Southern California, would cost many thousands of dollars if it ever came to the market. Maybe only about five or six of the blue-logo style of signs survive to the present day! So here’s your chance to get your hands on a fantastic display piece… Without breaking the bank. The sign is 16 by 15 inches, and weighs 4 lb. This is a high quality, heavy steel replica sign. Accept no imitations that may be one-third this price, but are one-tenth the quality. No cheap tin to be found here, with the wrong fonts, layouts, size, shape, or any other manner of embarrassing imperfection. This one will make even the most discerning collector stick their nose into the sign, as it looks that good from that close!
