Made to the exact standards as used from the 1910s to the 1930s by the US Forest Service to guide hikers along the trails, roads, and highways so they wouldn’t get lost and possibly eaten by bears. The signs were posted in the National Forests of all 50 states; this one is from Montana. The Lewis & Clark National Forest spans 2,912 sq. Of west central Montana, and is managed as two separate zones, the Jefferson Division and the Rocky Mountain Division. The Jefferson Division is mostly grass and shrublands. In this section, the landscape is dotted with fewer forested areas, which mostly occur in “island” pockets throughout that portion of the division. The Rocky Mountain Division, which straddles the Continental divide, has been designated a wilderness for much of the land area. Therefore, much of the management of this Division involves implementing and maintaining environmental preservation practices. I can, of course, make this sign with any forest or destinations of your choice. Gorgeous, circa 1950 reverse painted glass illuminated sign. Condition is excellent but the glass itself was cracked and has been re-glued. But serious thanks to the quality of manufacture of the ad panel and metal case. A very tough sign and one never to be upgraded. Referred to as a Glow sign. The Gill Glass Company (Gillco) and Central Lighting and Fixture Company were one and the same. Gill Glass employed the glass artists of the company and Central Lighting and Fixture employed the folks that designed and fabricated the fixture portion of the lights, chandeliers, wall sconce etc. So in the case of this National Bohemian Back Bar Light – Gill Glass fired the 14″ ROG advertising lens and Central Lighting and Fixture fabricated the metal cabinet that holds the 14″ ROG advertising lens. About 15 x 3 inches.
