If you’re a Blatz collector you’ve probably seen the more common (but still rare) plaster or “chalkware” version of this Blatz sign. The plaster version is dated 1933, and though this tin-over-cardboard (TOC) sign does not bear a date, after many years of collecting Blatz advertising I’m confident this sign is from the same time period, most likely the same year,’33. It’s a beautiful, and very-hard-to-find, Blatz sign depicting a jovial scene of beer drinking on a scenic overlook with Heidelberg and the Neckar River Valley in the background. Today, 90 years later, you can go to the same location in Germany and get the same view from the same terrace! This sign is from my personal collection and has been lovingly displayed in a non-smoking home. Sign, in TOC form, is truly rare. Have you ever seen another in good condition? I’ve only seen a few, all in worse condition than this one. The sign measures 23″ tall by 35″ wide, and is self-framed. Much of the sign is embossed: the faux-wood frame, the people, the dog, the furniture, and Blatz Old Heidelberg. The original cardboard back is still in good shape, though I’m sure the wire hanger was added at some point not by me! This sign does have some wear in the form of light scuffs and scratches, rubs, light dents, and some waviness along the edges which I tried to show in the low-angle photos. Like everything we sell, this sign is absolutely authentic, original, and very old. We’ve never dealt in reproductions, and never will. It will be extremely well packed, with bubble wrap to protect the surfaces, and sandwiched between stiff foam sheets to prevent any chance of bending. We guarantee your complete satisfaction.
