New York City East 204th Street sign. Up for sale today is this New York City 204th Street sign, which faces Webster Avenue. The sign is made to the 1910s specification used by the city to designate this famous street in the heart of Midtown Manhattan. This is the last style of porcelain sign before retroreflective signage, unfortunately not in the distinct shape any longer, were introduced in 1950s. This particular intersection was the location of the now-demolished IRT Third Avenue (also called the “3rd Avenue El”) line’s 204th Street Station in the Bronx, which opened on October 4, 1920, and closed on April 29, 1973. I can of course make any street, any block number, found anywhere in the Big Apple, and everywhere else too! T he sign is the original size of 22 by 12 inches, and weighs about 5 pounds, 3 ounces. This is a high quality, heavy steel remake , very much reminiscent of the classic porcelain appearance of the original signs. Accept no imitations that may be one-third this price, but are one-tenth the quality. No cheap tin to be found here, with the wrong fonts, layouts, size, shape, or any other manner of embarrassing imperfection. This one will make even the most discerning collector stick their nose into the sign, as it looks that good from that close! Would you like a street name or block number not seen here? Or perhaps a different style? I can of course make these signs with any street name of your choice, and not just this style, but others with the reflectors, the embossed style that other states used, and even the classic mileage, direction, and route shield signs from the era.
