Vintage Metal Sign

Florida US Route 1 marker. Up for sale today is this Florida US Route 1 sign. Made to the exact 1949 state standard, as used between then and the early 1950s along this famous road. Florida used colored shields-with US 1 receiving white-on-red markers throughout the state-from the 1940s until 1993, but they only used the 16½×16 inch cutouts until 1956. US Route 1 is the eastern seaboard’s longest highway, totaling over 1700 miles between Fort Kent, Maine and Key West, Florida. The Florida segment enters the state just north of Jacksonville and proceeds to Daytona, Fort Lauderdale, Miami, and then between the keys across a series of bridges. This last segment, the Overseas Highway, was completed in 1938, extending the route from Miami to Key West. An original of these is very hard to come by. They were retired from the roads of Florida long ago, with most of them being destroyed and only a few examples circulating on the collector’s market. An original would easily run many hundreds or even thousands of dollars on the collector’s market. So here’s your chance to get your hands on a fantastic display piece… Without breaking the bank. The sign is 16 by 16 inches, and weighs 5 lb. This is a high quality, heavy steel replica sign. Accept no imitations that may be one-third this price, but are one-tenth the quality. No cheap tin to be found here, with the wrong fonts, layouts, size, shape, or any other manner of embarrassing imperfection. This one will make even the most discerning collector stick their nose into the sign, as it looks that good from that close!
