Entering Salem, Massachusetts city limit sign. Up for sale today is this Entering Salem highway sign. Made to the exact state standard as devised in the early 1950s to resemble an open book; this sign style persisted until about 1975 when the more modern flat-bottom variant came into prevalence. As far as I know, none of these curved-bottom signs, featuring the classic Massachusetts highway sign font, remain in existence. If one should show up, it would command a price of several hundred or multiple thousands of dollars. Here is your chance to own an example of this style of sign, without breaking the bank. I can make any Massachusetts town or city name sign; inquire about your home town! And I can make these signs in any size, too! The sign is flat printed on steel, with completely accurate layout and fonts. It weighs about 2 lb. And is 12 by 10 inches. It is a non-reflective sign – perfect for indoor or outdoor display. This is a high quality, heavy steel, replica sign. Accept no imitations that may be one-third this price, but are one-tenth the quality. No cheap tin to be found here, with the wrong fonts, layouts, size, shape, or any other manner of embarrassing imperfection. This one will make even the most discerning collector stick their nose into the sign, as it looks that good from that close! I can of course make these signs with any city name of your choice, and not just this style, even the classic US and state route markers, and the mileage and direction guide signs, from the era. Anything you would like, made with unsurpassed quality right here in the good old US of A. Figure about 4 lb. The watermark and bear logo in the design preview will not appear on the actual sign. We have begun adding a watermark because we have had problems with other companies copying our artwork to make lesser-quality imitations. You will only get this high level of quality in design and materials from Signs by Jake. Life doesn’t happen along the interstates. It’s against the law.

Clipper Heritage Trail Vintage 1969 Metal Sign 12x18, Newburyport Massachusetts
Original metal ” Clipper Trail ” sign. Over 50 years ago this sign marked the Clipper Heritage Trail in Newburyport, Massachusetts. (see historical information below). Attached vertical metal bracket at the back (1″ x 14″). Original blue and white paint. Black paint on the back side. Weighs about 3.5 pounds. Old, retired sign with paint loss (see the photos). Otherwise in good condition. In 1969 an historical walking trail, the ” Clipper Trail, ” was established in Newburyport, Massachusetts, which visitors could follow. The Clipper Trail sign was designed by Edward K. Piel, a model shipbuilder and founder of Piel Craftsmen, and also head of the Chamber’s tourist planning committee. The blue and white signs were placed throughout the city along historical points of interest. Many years later the original “Clipper Trail” was updated to the ” Clipper Heritage Trail”, and granite pavers were installed in the brick sidewalk in front of various historical points of interests in the downtown area. The granite pavers incorporate Mr. Piel’s original design of the Clipper Trail vessel. Today the Clipper Heritage Trail is a series of self-guided history tours of Newburyport, MA, where visitors can “step back in time and walk in the footsteps of shipbuilders and sea captains; bakers, clam diggers and comb makers; silversmiths and soldiers; abolitionists and African Americans; and authors and artists “, where history buffs can explore the hidden corners of a destination where the first settlers of Newbury landed in 1635 on the northern shores of the Parker River.

To maximize the chance your signs will arrive before Christmas, please order before December 5! Massachusetts Turnpike route marker. Up for sale today is this Massachusetts Turnpike highway sign. Made to the exact state standard as devised in 1957 for the first generation of Mass Pike signs-complete with the infamous arrow-through-hat design that was replaced in the mid-1980s. The stories vary as to why the original design went away: one version of the tale says that someone got offended by the idea of violence presented by the image of the hat with an arrow through it. The far less interesting version says that it wasn’t intuitive that the arrow meant the direction one had to turn to access the highway. Left-handed versions of this route marker exist as well! An original of these is very very rare to find scrapped. Most of them have vanished from the back roads of Massachusetts many years ago, replaced with the modern issue. I definitely do not know any of them left in active service for the last few decades. So here is your chance to own an excellent display piece, without paying an arm and a leg on the collector’s market. The sign is 20 by 16 inches, and weighs 8 lb. This is a high quality, heavy steel sign. Please do see my other auctions for quality Massachusetts Interstate and US route markers!
