Made to the exact state standard as devised in 1976 and still seen on Massachusetts highways to this day. It is the modern version of the 1950s book-leaf design, with a flat bottom to make it easier to attach to a pole with standard hardware. This sign style persisted until 2009 or so, when the text began to be displayed in mixed case, in accordance with new federal regulations reflecting research showing mixed-case text to be more legible from a distance. Signs like this do turn up on the collector’s market from time to time. However, examples in good condition often command a price of several hundred dollars.
