This thermometer hung loosely on a screw on my porch post for many years, accurately displaying the outdoor temperature from the window of the door. Last week a strong wind blast blew it off and the glass shattered upon hitting the floor (see photos #2 and 3). There is a small dent in the metal aluminum frame (see photo #10) and a bend that the new owner could straighten (photo #12). Rather than continuing to use it and having the weather ruin the excellent dial, I decided to let it go to a collector who may use it inside as it is or replace the glass. I took it apart so you can see the construction. Two screws hold the round frame together. When the screws are removed the frame separates at that spot and allows the rubber gasket (and glass if it was there) and dial to be removed. (See photos #5 and 6). It was simple to reassemble it (shown that way in photos 1 and 7-12). I did not try to put the shattered glass puzzle together to measure it, but the complete rubber gasket that surrounds the glass looks like it would hold a 12 diameter glass. If replacing it, you should measure it precisely. The metal frame (alumina) measures 12.25 inches in diameter. The dial is 12. So, we are stuck with it. Thanks for looking and reading.
