Antique Iron Cemetery Sign Haven of Rest Haunted Hotel Ashland Alabama Rare

Up for sale: This is a unique 19th Century sign I received from a friend. He had it in his house for over 40 years. It came out of the Clairmont Springs Resort(see last picture) in Ashland Alabama. I’m not sure what cemetery it came out of or how long this was hanging in the resort as the resort was built in 1909. The hotel burned down in the 70’s and was known as one of the most haunted places in the south. Around the resort were several springs that were said to have healing elements. There was a train stop there and politicians and actors would stop in and stay the night. It’s also believed that Al Capone stayed there as well as he wrote about staying at a rural East Central Alabama hotel in his letters. The sign is made of iron. With raised letters and measures 4.5′ long and 19 wide. The iron is half an inch in thickness. Heavy and weighs close to 50 lbs. A really rare piece for a collector. RARE EARLY 20TH CENTURY ALFRED PEATS PRIZE WALL PAPER ANTIQUE BAKED CERAMIC PORCELAIN STEEL, METAL ADVERTISING SIGN, with PRE- DRILLED HOLES ALONG OUTSIDE MARGINS for WALL MOUNTING/ HANGING. [New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Boston]. Early 20th century Ame ri can antique early decorating supply advertising & porcelain ceramic metal home decorating advertising signs. 17″ Width x 14″ Height. For sale is this very scarce and very cool early 20th century Ame ri can antique baked porcelain ceramic steel metal wall paper and home/office decorating advertising sign, produced by Alfred Peats Prize Wall Paper Agency, New York, Chicago, Philadelphia and Boston. It has pre-drilled wall hanging/mounting holes along its perimeter and it’s largely here, due to the concussive force of metal fasteners affixing the porcelain sign to a wall, where damage to the surface of the sign is primarily located. The porcelain ceramic enamel loss is minimal and the interior field of the sign has only some minor abrasions/scuffs and a single small area of enamel loss on the lower right quarter of its front. The back of the sign has smooth baked porcelain ceramic surfaces with more visible oxidation, as moisture would have been caught between its surface and the wall it was mounted on. It looks to have been mounted indoors, as the sign is relatively unscathed. It’s now nearly 100 years old and counting. Its facia is still glossy and its rich colors remain nearly undiminished in overall saturation and intensity. The sign measures 17″ in width by 14″ in height. Great inverted cobalt blue four-leaf clover design motif. What’s on your walls looking back at you? Good to Very Good overall antique condition. RARE COLOSSAL’ROBIN HOOD FLOUR’ EARLY 20TH C VINT 40 x 40 PRCL’N ENML AD SIGN

[Produced by Gurney Signs of C a na d a for Robin Hood Flour, originally from Minnesota & then also produced using C a n ad i a n wheat in C a na d a]. Early 20th century, pre-WWII Ame ri can antique large baked porcelain enamel, flour and baking products advertising metal signs. 40″ Height x 4o” Width. It was produced for the Ame ri can flour company Robin Hood Flour, originally based in Minnesota, but which would expand its reach to Iowa and then into C a na d a , where this porcelain sign was fashioned. The sign was produced by the C a n ad i a n sign company Gurney Signs, C a na d a. The porcelain sign is square, measuring exactly 40″ in height x 40″ in width and is an original, baked enamel porcelain advertising sign, circa 1920 to 1938, produced in the period between WWI and WWII. The sign is a period one and not a knock-off or recent facsimile of an original, antique period sign. It’s the real deal and as right as rain. The porcelain surfaces miraculously only suffer from some small, minor episodes of loss and subsequent oxidation. There are no dents, dings, deformities, enamel blow-outs or creases anywhere on the sign. Some minor enamel loss occurs around the original brass grommets from the pressure applied to the enamel surfaces when previously mounted. Good to Very Good overall antique condition.
