It serves as the main street of Northern Nevada, serving Douglas County, the capital Carson City (where it once overlapped US 50, the Lincoln Highway), and Reno. After its return to California, it travels even further north through Oregon and Washington. An original of these is very hard to come by. This style was supplanted by the subsequent MUTCD of 1971, but several states still have surviving examples with various route numbers on them.
